If this story from their website doesn’t put a tear in your eye…
It all started nearly 100 years ago. Edwin Dunneback purchased the farm in Alpine Township in 1922. He farmed 170 acres of apples, peaches, corn, hay and a herd of dairy cows. Edwin had four sons & one daughter; Edward and Joseph continued on with the farm adding strawberries & the cold storage, now known as our farm market. Through the 30s, 40s, 50s & 60s, the barn hosted barn dances, weddings, farm tours & hay rides. Edward met his wife Helen at one of these very barn dances! Ed & Helen went on to have 3 children Pamela, Michael & Suanne. In 1969, the family was forever changed when our beloved son, brother & uncle was killed in action in the Vietnam War. It was at this time, when Ed couldn’t bear the & Sons on the front of the barn that Pam climbed up and changed it to & Girls. While this tragedy caused irreparable damage to the family and farm, the family pulled together and continued on farming. Suanne moved back to the farm working with her dad everyday. She has run the farm for the past 40 years. Suanne & her husband have two daughters, Stephanie & Sarah. We all live on the farm working to carry on the family tradition started 4 generations ago! We are farming the same ground offering offering u-pick asparagus, strawberries, sweet & tart cherries, apples & pumpkins. The same barn is now home to our fresh produce market, gift shoppe, bakery, kitchen & tap room! Come spend the day with us, bring your family & friends and start your own family tradition with the Dunneback Girls!

U-Pick Apples (& More!)
It all started back in 1965 with 29 acres of apple and peach trees. As time went on the apple business began to grow and we separated the crop with peach trees moved to a new location in the orchard. Then in 1974 our orchard replaced the existing apple trees with dwarf trees. We had been a “Pick Your Own” style orchard for twenty three years until 1988. As the customer base grew we installed a cooler and selling fresh produce out of the garage in 1995.
Five years later in 2000 we diversified our offering by adding tomatoes, flowers, and other farm fresh vegetables for the table. Six years later we invested in a new larger building to sell our crops out of, with a new produce cooler to help store product and maintain freshness. Our family also has been on the “Kent Harvest Trail” since 2002 opening our doors to families like yours to visit.
Come in and see what we are doing – to date we have.
45 acres of apple trees
3 acres of peach trees
½ acre of blue berry bushes
½ acre of cherry trees
Our family orchard is worked by the Blok Family (Bastian, Anna, and Alvin). We work hard with the community to supply great produce at a high quality, and of course always reasonable prices. We love seeing our old and new customers and look forward to serving you.
As our orchard continues to grow every year, more delicious options of produce are available. “Don’t you think it’s a good time to come visit us?”

Corn Maze & Hayrides!
Here at Crane Orchards we strive to give you and your family a great experience to create fall memories as you pick apples, get lost in our corn maze, and pick pumpkins (later in the season).
Our goal is to create an environment in which all feel accepted and welcomed on our orchard.
With that being said, a friendly reminder that our orchard, the orchard across the street, and the pie pantry/restaurant are all separate businesses. We are all extended family and wish each other the most success, but are all separately owned and operated, so please try to address praise or concerns to the appropriate business. (We LOVE hearing that the pie pantry’s pies are out of this world, but they love hearing it even more, as so many hours and so much love is put into them on their end.)

Their tagline on their website is “A Hard Cider is Good To Find” and that makes me already love them!
From their site: Paul and Amanda Vander Heide started Vander Mill in 2006. The vision wasn’t elaborate: a small-town cider mill where people can feel at home. What started as a small and regionally distributed product, the Vander Mill hard cider brand quickly gained a strong customer base and the production facility needed to expand in 2012. Greater regional distribution demanded further growth, and a new production facility and tap room was opened in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 2016. Today, Vander Mill distributes to Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
