Port Crescent State Park (Port Austin)
They have two “geo domes” here that look pretty cool!
About the domes:
Two accessible geodesic domes, located in the center of the campground, offer an intimate setting with spruce paneling, skylights and views of Lake Huron. Each dome sleeps up to four and offers air conditioning and heat. There is a queen bed, and up to two can sleep in cot-style bunks. In addition, there is a sitting area, coffee maker, microwave and mini fridge.
The grey dome (The Voyager) features modern furnishings, and the gold dome (The Nomad) features traditional furnishings.
There is no running water, but a modern toilet and shower building is located about 300 feet away and a vault toilet is located about 100 feet away.
Guests must provide their own linens and cookware.
There is a two-night minimum stay, and check-out time is 11 a.m.
About the Park:
Port Crescent State Park, located just outside the town of Port Austin at the tip of Michigan’s “thumb,” is set along 3 miles of sandy Lake Huron shoreline. The park boasts a dark sky preserve, a modern campground featuring waterfront views and 10 overnight lodging options, such as geodesic domes, camper cabins and cottages. The park is also home to the Pinnebog River, trails, breathtaking sunsets and opportunities for fishing, canoeing, birding, cross-country skiing, hunting and more.
When the sun sets and the stars come out, visitors can enjoy exceptional stargazing in the park’s dark sky preserve. The best viewing location is located near Parking Lot D, where there is a viewing platform.
The park is located near Turnip Rock. This popular destination rises from the water and is accessible via a 7-mile out-and-back canoe or kayak trip. There are local outfitters that provide rentals.
Select Michigan State Parks (All Over The State)

The lookout inspired outpost has all the modern amenities–Air conditioning, furnace, private bath with shower, hot and cold running water. Solar power is used for interior lights. The 14×14 room has a queen size bed, a comfy chair, small table with 2 chairs, buffet cabinet with bar sink, small refrigerator for drinks and coffee maker. The refrigerator is quite small so bring a cooler and ice if you bring perishable food. There are no cooking facilities in the treehouse but there is a propane gas grill outside. There is also a fire pit. Bring wood so you can enjoy an evening by the fire.
NEW IN SPRING OF 2021!!!
We have added a “glamping” tent which is considered the 2nd bedroom. If you have more than 2 guests the tent will be automatically added. It is a 12×14 platform tent that has windows on 3 sides, a front door with screen, 2 beds (30×78). This is designed to accommodate another couple or older children who can sleep alone. There is a $25/night cost for each person. There is an electric heater for the cool nights but we don’t recommend using the tent in March, November or December . There is a portable air conditioner for your comfort during the warm summer. The tent is always in addition to the treehouse. You cannot rent just the tent.
The ground level is the “mechanical “ room and the bathroom. MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THAT YOU HAVE TO GO OUTSIDE AND DOWN THE STAIRS TO GO TO THE BATHROOM…we do provide an umbrella in case it’s raining. We consider it part of the adventure!
