Glamping MI

I’m dreaming of summer! Most of these places have been on my radar for a few years now. I thought it was about time to put a list together and share!

Port Crescent State Park (Port Austin)

They have two “geo domes” here that look pretty cool!

About the domes:

Two accessible geodesic domes, located in the center of the campground, offer an intimate setting with spruce paneling, skylights and views of Lake Huron. Each dome sleeps up to four and offers air conditioning and heat. There is a queen bed, and up to two can sleep in cot-style bunks. In addition, there is a sitting area, coffee maker, microwave and mini fridge.

The grey dome (The Voyager) features modern furnishings, and the gold dome (The Nomad) features traditional furnishings.

There is no running water, but a modern toilet and shower building is located about 300 feet away and a vault toilet is located about 100 feet away.

Guests must provide their own linens and cookware.

There is a two-night minimum stay, and check-out time is 11 a.m.

About the Park:

Port Crescent State Park, located just outside the town of Port Austin at the tip of Michigan’s “thumb,” is set along 3 miles of sandy Lake Huron shoreline. The park boasts a dark sky preserve, a modern campground featuring waterfront views and 10 overnight lodging options, such as geodesic domes, camper cabins and cottages. The park is also home to the Pinnebog River, trails, breathtaking sunsets and opportunities for fishing, canoeing, birding, cross-country skiing, hunting and more.

When the sun sets and the stars come out, visitors can enjoy exceptional stargazing in the park’s dark sky preserve. The best viewing location is located near Parking Lot D, where there is a viewing platform.

The park is located near Turnip Rock. This popular destination rises from the water and is accessible via a 7-mile out-and-back canoe or kayak trip. There are local outfitters that provide rentals.

Select Michigan State Parks (All Over The State)

The Outpost (East Leroy)

From their site:
Unique treehouse cabin with all amenities inspired by forest ranger lookout. Though not actually attached to a tree, the outpost treehouse sits in a white pine forest in the middle of a 65 acre active farm. The 15 hand crafted windows allow for great views watching out for Michigan wildlife–White tail deer, turkeys, owls, coyote have all been spotted from the elevated wrap around deck.

The lookout inspired outpost has all the modern amenities–Air conditioning, furnace, private bath with shower, hot and cold running water. Solar power is used for interior lights. The 14×14 room has a queen size bed, a comfy chair, small table with 2 chairs, buffet cabinet with bar sink, small refrigerator for drinks and coffee maker. The refrigerator is quite small so bring a cooler and ice if you bring perishable food. There are no cooking facilities in the treehouse but there is a propane gas grill outside. There is also a fire pit. Bring wood so you can enjoy an evening by the fire.

We have added a “glamping” tent which is considered the 2nd bedroom. If you have more than 2 guests the tent will be automatically added. It is a 12×14 platform tent that has windows on 3 sides, a front door with screen, 2 beds (30×78). This is designed to accommodate another couple or older children who can sleep alone. There is a $25/night cost for each person. There is an electric heater for the cool nights but we don’t recommend using the tent in March, November or December . There is a portable air conditioner for your comfort during the warm summer. The tent is always in addition to the treehouse. You cannot rent just the tent.

The ground level is the “mechanical “ room and the bathroom. MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THAT YOU HAVE TO GO OUTSIDE AND DOWN THE STAIRS TO GO TO THE BATHROOM…we do provide an umbrella in case it’s raining. We consider it part of the adventure!

Honorable Mentions:

Mai Tiki Resort Cottages (Oscoda)

“The Caribbean of Northern Michigan”

This place really does look fun. It looks like more of a party vibe than peaceful glamping, but (like I said before) everyone has their own style and preferences!

From their site:

Wanderhut (Newaygo)

From their site:

Your Glamping Gateway to the North.
Nestled in Michigan forest, our Wanderhut is a short 8-minute drive to Newaygo, 45 from Grand Rapids. Experience the joys of a camping getaway in comfort.
Fishing, hiking, biking are only steps outside your door. Fall asleep with a campfire and a chorus of crickets; wake up with the sun and the chirping of birds.

Our 3-season wall tent is the perfect camping getaway for those who want a few of the comforts of home.

Furnished with a queen bed, the tent itself is spacious and comfortable. LED lights set a festive scene, and the screened in porch protects you from summer insects. While the tent does not have a bathroom or running water or electricity, a port-a-potty has been installed nearby.

Shower/bath facilities are available at Henning Park Campgound (May 1st- October 1st)which is 5miles from the tent. A $6 vehicle day pass can be purchased at the main office to use the facilities. (Bath house, tennis/pickle ball courts, swimming pond, and Muskegon River access and boat launch).

During the colder months (October -April) we install a small wood stove in
the tent to help take the chill off. This stove will need tending to through out the night so it is still recommended that you plan accordingly for the weather (winter sleeping bags and proper attire).

Feel free to bring along to bring along your 4 legged friend! Just be sure to clean up after your dog and keep them to the tent site area. Please do not let your dog run free, we have free range chickens on the property around our house.

Grace’s Glade (Cadillac)

From their site:

Glamping: this is the place for someone who wants to go camping without roughing it. Queen size bed, hot shower, stove, refrigerator, electrical outlets and privacy to enjoy the great outdoors. Relax around fire pit and don’t be surprised if a deer wanders in. This is the spot where we take our grandchildren camping because we want to enjoy being outdoors but want comfort while being close to all that Cadillac has to offer. Local lakes nearby, close to bike and ORV trails.

While the site is private you are only minutes away from Cadillac. The wall tent is 16×20 with a plywood floor with throw rugs. It has both a front and back covered porch to allow you to enjoy the sunrise and sunset. If it is cool at night there is a propane radiant heater in the tent. The back porch overlooks a deep valley that often serves as a pathway for deer and wild turkeys. The utility area is 15 feet from the tent and contains both a kitchen and bathroom. There is an instant on water heater so you have plenty of hot water. The antique stove is beautiful as well as functional and you have a full refrigerator. Just outside you will find a large grill. If the chickens cooperate you will have some fresh eggs available for breakfast.

There is a large fire pit for your pleasure. We provide fire starters and an ample supply of firewood.

You have 150 acres you can explore. This is a working farm with mixed lowlands, pine/hardwood forests, 2 ponds, hay/pasture fields and a flowing stream. Adjoining our property is National Forest. This is glorified camping so there may be bugs (Michigan State bird is the mosquito). Nearby you can access Bike and ORV trails. If you bring an ORV you will need to stay on the dirt roads on our property. Our property is fenced in so you can’t get lost. We would love the opportunity to educate you on raising grass fed cattle. The cattle will be nearby so early summer is special with calves being born.

From their site:

This is not a rustic campground, we provide everything you would need and more to enjoy a beautiful and relaxing camping getaway.

Welcome to the peace and the rippling sounds of the North Branch of the Manistee River just outside your decked-out, glamping tent door! This site, the easiest accessible and recommended for those unable to walk up and down a hill to access our other two glamping sites.
